Hamid Jr., managing the pier’s massive roster of continuous family entertainment. The famous 1964 Beatles concert in Atlantic City actually has a distinct twist regarding Francis Schreiber and the Steel Pier:The 1964 Beatles ConcertWhile the Beatles famously performed in Atlantic City on August 30, 1964, they did not actually perform on Steel Pier. They were originally booked to play the pier's Marine Ballroom, but as "Beatlemania" exploded, it quickly became clear the venue was too small to handle the demand.Because of their immense popularity, the show was moved down the Boardwalk to the 18,000-seat Boardwalk Hall, where promoter George Hamid Jr. produced the event. The AftermathFollowing the historic show, the Beatles retreated to the nearby Lafayette Hotel. To ensure their safety and evade thousands of screaming fans, George Hamid Jr. and his team infamously smuggled the Fab Four out of the hotel in a Hackney’s fish truck.
