Description
Artist & Title: Uriah Heep – Salisbury
Salisbury: Scarce original 1971 UK 1st Pressing on the Bronze label (released earlier in the year on the Vertigo label) 6-track vinyl LP with A2U/B2U matrices manufactured and distributed by Island Records, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve with the original inner sleeve. Both the sleeve and vinyl are in Excellent Plus condition (many dealers would grade this LP Mint) and sounds wonderful.
Highly desirable for its first-press matrix codes, and hard enough to find in good condition, the vinyl is in Excellent Plus condition and the gatefold sleeve is also in Excellent condition. And as these original 1st pressing Bronze label LPs come up so infrequently in this condition this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this extreme rarity to your collection at an extremely advantageous price.

This is the earliest form of the release on the Bronze label. It still has the original, factory applied, catalogue number sticker on the rear of the cover (See Pics).
This unique, GENUINE FIRST BRONZE PRESSING, Uriah Heep LP from the band’s early years is hardly ever offered for sale in this condition.
This is the extremely rare real thing: a GENUINE first UK Bronze pressing in Excellent+/Excellent+ condition. The record, gatefold picture sleeve and inner sleeve are all in pristine collectable condition, without any obvious signs of use, tears, creases, stains, fingerprints or major shelf wear on the sleeve, and NO signs of use on the LP. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1971 not reprints or fakes. The LP is the original first press Bronze label stereo LP, which was only played a few times on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.
THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS UNIQUE ALBUM EVER OFFERED FOR SALE IN RECENT TIMES
Salisbury is the second album released by British rock band Uriah Heep.
Although the majority of tracks are clean hard rock, more so than on the previous ...Very 'Eavy ...Very 'Umble, the album features forays into both jazz-fusion on "The Park", whose tune is borrowed from a traditional Andean/Bolivian song "Nacimiento", and square progressive rock on the band's first foray into large–scale composition, the 16–minute title track featuring a 24–piece orchestra. It also includes the largely acoustic ballad "Lady In Black." The hard rock sound, quite prominent here, would be transferred over to their next release, which was to be dominated by this genre.
Unlike their first album, songwriting credits for fully half of the record are attributed to Ken Hensley alone, as opposed to the collaborative partnership credits of Box/Byron on the debut.
The album was originally released on the Vertigo label, as had been the band's debut Very 'Eavy... Very 'Umble, but both were soon re-issued on their new label when the band signed to the new Bronze Records for their third LP.
The connection of the artwork to the title is readily explained. Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, is an Army training-area. On the front of the album sleeve is a British Chieftain tank. The original LP release was a gatefold-sleeve, with a b/w picture inside of a British tank of the First World War, over which were printed Hensley's comments on each track. Later reissues would be in a single sleeve.
This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this piece of rock history.
The band's second album Salisbury was more squarely in the progressive rock genre, with its 16-minute title track featuring a 24-piece orchestra. One of the album's tracks, "Lady in Black", described as "a stylishly arranged tune that builds from a folk-styled acoustic tune into a throbbing rocker full of ghostly harmonies and crunching guitar riffs", became a hit in Germany upon its re-release in 1977 (earning the band the Radio Luxemburg Lion award). Produced by Gerry Bron, the second album went a long way to (according to All Music) perfect Uriah Heep's "blend of heavy metal power and prog rock complexity" and was also significant for Ken Hensley's instant rise to a position of the main author. Soon after the release Keith Baker left the band to be replaced by Ian Clarke (from another Vertigo band Cressida). With him the band made their first US tour, supporting Three Dog Night and Steppenwolf.
