Uriah Heep, Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble, Orig UK Vertigo G/fld LP, EX/VG+, 1st Press!

Description

This is the original UK issue with the large spiral Vertigo labels, with the 'Produced by... & small 33 1/3' label text, the incorrect track order on the inner gatefold sleeve and the 1Y//1 2Y//1 matrices, with the 1-1-6 1-1-3 stampers of the early first presses!

Uriah Heap were based in London and began life as Spice, recording a rare single in 1968 and a couple of tracks for an album when they were signed by Gerry Bron (later of Bronze Records), who became their manager. Ken Hensley also joined the band in early 1970 and they changed their name to 'Uriah Heep', being signed to the new Vertigo label. The band completed their first album, including the earlier Spice tracks by April 1970 and it was released in June. The critics hated it, but it went underground and became a slow burner hit and the band went on to tour in Europe later that year. Being one of the early Vertigo releases there are a number of mistakes and differences in the labels and sleeves, at least six or seven different combinations, before it was re-released on the small swirl label in 1971. The most obvious are the early sleeves with the wrong running order and no printing or music credits. On the labels; the earliest have no music credits, some have 'Produced by' others have 'Prod. by', some have a large 33 1/3, some a small 33 1/3 and all these label differences can be found with incorrect and correct track listing sleeves......
The UK printed front laminated gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some light storage laminate rubbing and a couple of laminate creases on the outer cover, with some light rubbing & scarring on the inner cover. The spine is intact and fully readable and the Vertigo spiral company inner is intact, discoloured and in VG+ condition.   The record is in visually VG+ condition, with a few faint sleeve removal hairlines and a couple of light needle scuffs/marks visible on each side, with a couple of more obvious needle marks on side 2. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of faint spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout with no loud crackle or hiss and definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some very brief, low background noise during the run in grooves and a few low clicks during the quiet intro of 'Ill Keep On Trying' on side 2.
Overall, still a really great, loud & clear listen.   The matrix nos. are; 6360006, 1Y//1 stamper 1-1-6, 2Y//1 stamper 1-1-3. This is one of the very early copies of the 1st pressing of the original 1970 UK stereo issue of this album!
