Description

Used THE DOORS "Waiting For The Sun" 1968 Vinyl LP

  • You are bidding on one used copy of the DOORS stereo vinyl LP "Waiting For The Sun," originally released on July 3, 1968. This is the third studio album by the Doors. Recorded from February to May 1968, it became the band's first and only No. 1 album, spawning their second US number one single, "Hello, I Love You." It also became the band's first hit album in the UK, where it peaked at No. 16 on the chart. Produced by Paul A. Rothchild, engineered by Bruce Botnick. Recorded at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA. Duration: 33:04.

This is a Monarch Record Mfg. Co. 'MON' pressing with "stereo" on the right hand side of the spindle hole only. (See run-out info below.) It includes a Unipak gatefold sleeve with "Includes Hello, I Love You" hype sticker and a brown Elektra inner sleeve. Although some first pressings had the hype sticker, this is probably not a first pressing.

  • Personnel:
    • Drums - John Densmore
    • Guitar - Robby Krieger
    • Organ, Piano, Bass - Ray Manzarek
    • Vocals - Jim Morrison
    • Occasional Bass - Douglas Lubahn, Kerry Magness, Leroy Vinegar

  • The LP and jacket is USED but in excellent condition. (See grading legend below). The disc is considered Excellent (EX) and is not warped. The disc has been played, but it is very clean. There are light marks and a couple light scratches on both sides; these are not expected to be audible. The jacket is Excellent (EX): There is some very light edge wear and light ring wear on both sides. No other contact wear. The corners are slightly worn. No bends in the cardboard. The inner sleeve is Elektra generic (from the era) and in good condition. The pictures below are of the actual item.

  • AllMusic Review by Richie Unterberger:
The Doors' 1967 albums had raised expectations so high that their third effort was greeted as a major disappointment. With a few exceptions, the material was much mellower, and while this yielded some fine melodic ballad rock in "Love Street," "Wintertime Love," "Summer's Almost Gone," and "Yes, the River Knows," there was no denying that the songwriting was not as impressive as it had been on the first two records. On the other hand, there were first-rate tunes such as the spooky "The Unknown Soldier," with antiwar lyrics as uncompromisingly forceful as anything the band did, and the compulsively riff-driven "Hello, I Love You," which nonetheless bore an uncomfortably close resemblance to the Kinks' "All Day and All of the Night." The flamenco guitar of "Spanish Caravan," the all-out weirdness of "Not to Touch the Earth" (which was a snippet of a legendary abandoned opus, "The Celebration of the Lizard"), and the menacing closer "Five to One" were also interesting. In fact, time's been fairly kind to the record, which is quite enjoyable and diverse, just not as powerful a full-length statement as the group's best albums.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the auction. We will respond as quickly as possible.

We try to grade the condition of a vinyl record conservatively . Records may be considered flat, or not warped, unless otherwise noted. If one side of a record is in better shape than the other, two grades will appear. Records and covers are graded separately.

  • M = Mint. In all but the rarest cases, still sealed. If we know that an open record has never been played, and the rating otherwise applies, it will be graded mint.
  • NM = Near mint, or unplayed condition. Cover is near perfect, new looking, with no surface or ring wear.
  • EX = Only slight signs of wear; very clean, only light surface marks which do not distract significantly from the sound. Cover has only slight surface wear and is still in nice collectible condition.
  • VG+ = Evidence of play, with moderate surface wear and some minor noise - still plays well. Cover is solid with no breaks but may have minor surface wear or some ring wear.
  • VG = Overall wear, but no skips or serious defects. May be somewhat noisy during quiet passages. Cover is worn, with considerable ring wear, and may have partially broken edges.
  • VG- = Playable, but both the record and cover are well worn.
  • G or G+ = Poor or Rough condition. Holefiller only!
