Description
TOM WAITS: Blue Valentine. Used vintage LP (gatefold) in Mint/Very Good+ condition. Elektra/Asylum Recs. LP Catalog # 6E-162; 1978
Condition: Record played twice by me, the original owner. Jacket has some small areas where semi-glossy finish has been worn off (tight storage in a cabinet over the decades), but no corner crushes or wrinkles. Plus some stubborn fingerprints; I have yet to find the means to remove those things, don’t want to risk damaging the finish by applying alcohol or what have you. Hints of ring impressions on inside of gatefold surfaces, oddly.
Behind the Music: If Waits is your man, you should be familiar with this album. Tom is in full “hipster” mode with his delivery. Who else would open an album with a beautiful Bernstein/Sondheim song from “West Side Story” (“Somewhere”) delivered in his most absurdly guttural voice?? “Production and Sound by Bones Howe,” of course. In very small text it’s noted on jacket back that Tom’s personal manager, Herb Cohen, is moving up in the world: formerly headquartered at a Winchell’s Donuts shop in L.A. he is said to now operate out of the famous Brown Derby restaurant! This album includes well-known items like “Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis,” “Romeo is Bleeding” and “Whistlin Past the Graveyard.”
- About the seller: I am downsizing my personal belongings, and you can benefit. Unless otherwise indicated, all my records have been owned by me alone and treated with loving care. No significant scratches or gouges. I have been a Jazz radio broadcaster for 30+ years, but my musical tastes are wide-ranging. You will see this as my listed offerings grow. New items added weekly, check back often!
[NOTE: I clean all LPs with the Record Doctor device, but you will likely find my items rather dusty when they arrive. I have a lot of static electricity in my house, and dust always instantly returns to record surfaces after cleaning! Sorry about that!]
PLEASE NOTE: I will not sell anything for less than $9.99, as it’s not worth packaging the item up and taking it to the Post Office. Sure, you can buy an LP for 50 cents or less at a yard sale, but will it have been cared for like mine? Not likely.
FREE SHIPPING to U.S. address for purchase of any item of $100 or more.
