V/A "Musique Arabe Comparee" 10xLP BOX SET (Algeriaphon/Club Du Disque Arabe, 1986/ORIGINAL!!)

Up for sale today is a MASSIVE 10-LP box set compiled and narrated by famous Tunisian musicologist and musician Dr. Salah El Mahdi El Charif (1925-2014). It covers all aspects and eras of Arabic music, focusing on famous composers, singers, and musical forms, and offering examples of everything using recordings from the 1910s to the 1970s. Some of these earlier recordings are quite rare, in addition to featuring examples of music from parts of the Arab world that are not widely known for their contributions to Arabic music, such as Libya.

All in all, an amazing collection, perfect for lovers of Arabic music, Folkways style field recordings, music history, etc. Very in depth, intriguing, and beautiful. I was told by the guy I bought it from that this box set was limited to 1,000 copies, but I do not know if that's true. I've only seen it for sale one other time, for much more than I'm selling it here.

Condition: The LPs themselves are in excellent shape; easily VG+, with minor surface noise and pops here or there, but nothing major. Of course, the earlier recordings are taken from scratchy shellac 78s, and some of the field recordings are a bit on the rough side to begin with, but the albums themselves are in great shape. The included bilingual Arabic/French insert is in great shape, too (see photos). The box does have some wear on its side (see the later photos), probably from storage. It was there when I bought it. Overall everything is in quite good shape. Check the photos and judge for yourself.
