ORIGINAL UK CHARISMA (CAS 1109) PRESSING (October 1975) OF VAN DER GRAAF'S "Godbluff" LP (the first in their 'comeback' trilogy) - AND IT'S IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION (possibly never been played as there are no spindles or signs of use to the labels and the vinyl surfaces shine like new) AND IT DELIVERS PRACTICALLY FLAWLESS AUDIO THROUGHOUT (ON MY SYSTEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME!) - FANTASTIC COPY OF A SUPERB LP, ONE OF VAN DER GRAAF'S FINEST - VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED INDEED
PRESSED ON QUALITY MID-WEIGHT VINYL WITH THE FIRST SMALL HATTER LABELS
MATRIX: CAS 1109 A//4 / CAS 1109 B//3 (with ' ARAUN' etched on both run-offs)
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL SINGLE MATT SLEEVE "Printed in England by James Upton Ltd. England"
AND COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL WHITE CARD LYRIC/INFO INNER SLEEVE
Following the release of Pawn Hearts, bandleader Peter Hammill took time out to develop a solo career, choosing to focus his energy on darkly introspective works that seemed to be intended to examine the personal consequences of his life.
When it came time for reuniting the members of Van Der Graaf, this change in direction had its effect on the band's post-1975 music.
While the musical structures continued to be complex and dense, there seemed to be far less accent on the demonstration of musical skill than had formerly been the case.
Indeed, the album opened with daring quietness, with David Jackson's flute echoing across the stereo space, joined by Hammill's voice as he whispered the opening lines.
There was sturm-und-drang to come, but the music had been opened up and the lyrics had developed more focus, often abandoning metaphor in favour of statement.
Godbluff was a bravura comeback -- only four cuts, but all were absolute classics.
Side 1: THE UNDERCOVER MAN / SCORCHED EARTH
Side 2: ARROW / THE SLEEPWALKERS
LABELS: Clean, bright and fresh labels with no spindles and no signs of use - MINT
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, like new, glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - there is one light hairline at the end of the Side One into the run-off but it is superficial and has no audio consequence whatsoever - NEAR MINT/MINT
VINYL Audio: Gorgeous audio reproduction throughout with a crystal clear and detailed sound - deep, rich and beautifully warm. On careful play at a very loud volume the delivery is practically flawless - there are a coupe of minor light clicks but nothing intrusive - this is a beautifully clean, possibly completely unplayed copy critically graded as NEAR MINT for audio and in all honesty I don't think you will find one sounding better - great stuff
SLEEVE: Being untreated and black this sleeve is impossible to find in mint looking condition but this is a fine example. It's clean and unmarked with just some light creasing to the spine - but all text is clear and bold. There is a little rubbing to the surfaces but none of the common heavy ring wear - EXCELLENT
INNER SLEEVE: The thick card inner is clean and unmarked with no splits - NEAR MINT
