Description
VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR "Pawn Hearts" '71 UK 1st PRESS
BEAUTIFUL VINYL, EJ DAY GF w/INSERT, SENSATIONAL SOUND
VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR
Pawn Hearts
UK CHARISMA RECORDS (CAS 1051) FIRST 'PINK SCROLL' PRESSING (October 1971) OF VAN DER GRAAF'S STUNNING PROG MASTERPIECE "Pawn Hearts" - IN GREAT CONDITION AND DELIVERING SUPERB SOUND ON MY SYSTEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME! (see detailed audio assessment below)
PRESSED ON QUALITY MID-WEIGHT VINYL WITH THE FIRST ISSUE PINK CHARISMA LABELS
MATRIX: CAS 1051 A-1U (etched 'BOBIL') / CAS 1051 B-1U
VERY EARLY MOTHERS/STAMPERS: 1/O and 1/GT
THE LP IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL MATT GATEFOLD COVER "Sleeve printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford"
AND COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL (and elusive) LYRIC INSERT
Side 1: Lemmings (including Cog) (11:37) / Man-Erg (10:20)
Side 2: A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers (23:04)
LABELS: Clean, bright and unmarked with just light/moderate spindle traces (moderate on Side Two, light on Side One) - not over-played and extremely well cared for this is a great copy - EXCELLENT+
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces still retain their original deep, glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - EXCELLENT+
VINYL Audio: Outstanding audio quality throughout with a deep, rich, warm and vibrant sound and on playback at a very loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing, and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there is only the lightest touch of surface noise on some (not all) of the quietest/almost silent passages (nothing major and nothing I found at all intrusive - this still remains one of the cleanest copies I have heard). There is however, a tiny (2mm) mark on the middle section of "Lighthouse Keepers" which gives rise to a few clicks as it is passed over (for about 30 seconds) but again, this is nothing I found intrusive otherwise, the audio delivery is simply sensational and the LP plays to a very, very high standard with all frequencies bright and clear, no groove-wear and no distortion. Critically graded EXCELLENT+(+) / EXCELLENT for audio - this is an exceptionally clean pressing
SLEEVE: This cover is incredibly prone to wear, having an untreated matt finish but this one is in great shape with none of the heavy ring commonly found on the front and back surfaces. There is a little storage rubbing to the corners but nothing major and the whole sleeve is clean and unmarked. Overall, a fine example indeed - EXCELLENT
LYRIC INSERT: The lyric insert, printed on one side of thin paper with a light glossy finish is in EXCELLENT+ condition with just some signs of handling but no marks, rips or tears and no folds or creasing
PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY PICTURES - I USUALLY TAKE QUITE A FEW SO YOU CAN GET A CLEAR INDICATION OF EVERY DETAIL OF THE ITEM
