VARIOUS ARTISTS 80s Rock and Metal 7" Singles Colored Vinyl and Picture Discs

In the 80s, we had MANY bands, making all kinds of music. MTV, (for better or for worse), gave lots of exposure to bands that we might not have otherwise ever even heard about! And music wasn't about just ONE or TWO genres of music, it was DOZENS of categories (that broke down into numerous sub-genres). Today we feature a SIX PACK of rare and cool collectible 7" vinyl records, and each one a rock or metal artist from the 80s!

First up we have British heavy metal band Tygers of Pan Tang, and their version of an old song (made famous by The Clovers in 1959) titled "Love Potion No. 9". And on a sweet 7" picture disc! The A side artwork is actually from the cover of the 1981 album 'Crazy Nights', even though this track came from the Tygers of Pan Tang album 'The Cage', which was released in 1982. The B side track is "The Stormlands", originally an unreleased B side song, but added to the '97 CD reissue of 'Crazy Nights'. The B side artwork is a pic of Tygers' singer Jon Deverill. Guitar playing on both tracks is by John Sykes (who is awesome, and was in Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, and Blue Murder)!

Next up we have Great White, and their hit song "Call It Rock N' Roll". It's a very cool ETCHED 7" single, with another track that was unreleased (at the time) called "The Hunter". Both songs on the same side. The flip side is the etched artwork on the vinyl itself. In its original jacket. This is from the 1991 album titled 'Hooked'. Great White is best known as an 80s blues metal band, and had their biggest hits in that metal dominated decade, so I cheated a little, and added this release here! And the etched side artwork is from the original album cover, which was banned (because of a side butt), and the offending side butt was then cropped out. (You can look up both covers.) That first unbanned image is here, though in reverse on the label itself!

In 1988, a rocker named David Drew released his album titled 'Safety Love'. Drew had a sound and style that was comparable to Billy Idol. With a touch of goth. And kind of metal! He remade the 1970 hit "Green-Eyed Lady", first recorded by the band Sugarloaf, and actually did a pretty good version of it! He released that song on a very cool limited edition green vinyl 7" record. This comes in its original picture sleeve, as well.

Pat Benatar rocked hard in the early days of her career in the late 70s, then branched out as she became more popular in the 80s. She has actually had many radio hits, and one of them is "Fire and Ice", from the 1981 album titled 'Precious Time'. Benatar turned 71 in January, and has been married to her guitar player Neil Giraldo since 1982, and they are still together to this day! Pat Benatar is represented here with the 7" picture disc of "Fire and Ice", backed with another track from 'Precious Time' called "Hard to Believe".

John Mellencamp started out in the late 70s as John Cougar. He then added Mellencamp, and became John Cougar Mellencamp. Then he became John Mellencamp, which he still goes by to this very day. In 1982, he released the album that took radio by storm, and it made him famous! 'American Fool' contains the huge hits "Hurts So Good" and "Jack & Diane". A third single, called "Hand To Hold On To" another great track, was released that same year. A 7" picture disc came out, with a really cool pic of Mellencamp on the A side (but still going by John Cougar), and song titles and credits on the B side.

We'll end with a 7" clear vinyl single from Billy Squier, released in 1981. From his album 'Don't Say No'. The song they were promoting is "Too Daze Gone". That track was only released as a single in the UK. The album gave us the big hits: "The Stroke", "My Kinda Lover" and "In the Dark". This came out on clear vinyl, and with the B side track titled "Whadda You Want From Me", also from 'Don't Say No'.

All of these singles are rare and collectible, and are great 80s artists. The songs are rockin', and the vinyl has cool features such as either being colored vinyl or a picture disc. Some have a few surface marks on them, and others look shiny and clean. I can't vouch for the sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records. And I very seldom play 7" records, as they are so fragile. Two come in their original sleeves, and John Cougar, Pat Benatar, Billy Squier, and Tygers of Pan Tang all come in clear generic sleeves. Relive that totally awesome decade of great music, one 7" record at a time....
