Whilst a disproportionate amount of cultural noise has been made regarding the punk rock revolution of the late-'70s, a good deal of what actually transpired and has since been celebrated essentially amounts to yet more rock orthodoxy in different clothing. This balance is redressed by this invigorating and inspiring collection, put together by Glasgow's redoubtable aesthetes Optimo, and chronicling a time when many young ingenues were genuinely inspired to pick up instruments with nary a rulebook in sight - bands like Fatal Microbes, Spunky Onions and The Prats may never have stood a chance commercially, yet the gloriously unreconstructed racket of this collection bristles with enduring energy and electricity.
