The double vinyl version of Dressed In Black - curated by goth author and cultural critic Cathi Unsworth - resequences the argument made about the genre even more deliberately than the CD. Annie Hogan appears here but not on the CD, slotted between Lydia Lunch and the Cramps; plus the four-sided structure hits differently, with harder post-punk and no-wave material clusters on Sides One and Two, the folk and art-rock broadening out across Side Three, and Side Four makes the deepest historical case via Velvet Underground through Billie Holiday, Karen Dalton and Nina Simone; there's also 'Ode To Billie Joe', Anna Calvi's reading of a Johnny Cash spiritual, 'All Tomorrow's Parties' and 'Gloomy Sunday'.
