Description
Offered here is a rare and highly collectable V Disc record from 1945 with the green colored U S MARINE CORPS label. This pressing is identical to the V Disc NAVY label release, but this was issued with the rare Marine Corps label. This label was used only for a short time and was discontinued almost immediately when the V Disc folks decided to combine the different armed services on to a single label.
The Richard A. Sears V-Disc discography says that "the number of Marine Corps V-Discs produced was minimal". I believe it. This is the only one I have seen in over 25 years of record collecting. And, it is in excellent condition and plays beautifully! - see photo close-ups for details.
The 'A' side features Bob Crosby and the V-Disc Bob Cats (with Yank Lawson) playing a Dixieland version of "WHEN I GROW TOO OLD TO DREAM", recorded for V-Disc in early April 1945. The song is 4 1/2 minutes long!
The 'B' side features the King Cole Trio playing "SATCHEL-MOUTH BABY" and "SOLID POTATO SALAD". These two songs were from the June 21, 1945 radio broadcast of NBC's 'Kraft Music Hall' program.
