Description

Of course we're in an era when record companies go deep in their vaults to fill out box sets with any cool archival recordings, and "Peel Slowly and See" was that for the Velvets. But long long before that, this box of gems came out in England (where punk was real, and there was a real market for delving deep into prototypes like VU and Iggy).
The great thing here is that they've rounded up so much of Lou's Pickwick* material, as well as the delightful and truly Warholesque conversation track "Index" and other flexi-discs that were floating around Saint Marks Place in 1966-67. None of this stuff is on "Peel Slowly and See" for the simple reason that it's every bit as uncommercial as it was intended to be...and wonderful to experience.
The vinyl is almost perfect, but these kinds of releases often were pressed on crappy vinyl in fly-by-night pressing plants, and to a small degree that's what's happening here--there's a little surface sound that I can hear when I listen on good electrostatic headphones. Besides that, some of the recordings themselves were derived from vinyl copies that weren't in the best shape. It doesn't reflect on the condition of the record, but it does make the record sound a bit sketchy. So just to avoid any misunderstanding I'll call this NM-.
The box itself has got some white flecks around the edges, like some jerk (me) at some point (life is long) handled it with like spackle on his stupid hands. The box is physically solid but I'll say VG+ so pls don't remind me of my sins.
Free shipping and insurance as usual for things like this!

*I wrote a little bit about Lou's career at Pickwick Records in my description of an album currently for sale (cheap) on Ebay called "Out of Sight!" which features one of the Lou Reed Beachnuts tracks--if you want to read about that, just click my "other items" whatnot.
