Velvet Underground - Femme Fatale b/w Sunday Morning Canadian VERVE 10466X MINT- Condition. UNIQUE CANADA ONLY HAND INSCRIBED MATRIX 10466S1 / 10466S2. This 45 is quite possibly the rarest VELVET UNDERGROUND 45 ever released anywhere in the world. As is well known the the VU issued very few 45's during their career. All of which are rare, some of which are extremely rare, and then there is this release, of which fewer than 5 copies are known to exist. What is thought to be the first copy of this 45 to ever appear on ebay surfaced earlier this year. I'm not certain whether it sold, as the minimum asking price was quite high. It's appearance on ebay generated quite a bit of discussion amongst VU fans, as this was the first time many (most?) fans had ever seen a copy. I know the seller of that copy, he & I corresponded, and it turned out that we both acquired our respective copies from the same source, a well known Canadian dealer, back in the early 1980's, although several years apart. These were the only two copies this dealer had ever had, or knew of. Between us we know many of the key VU collectors worldwide, and it turns out that no else that we knew of had a copy of the record, or knew anyone who did. Which is the basis for my belief that this disc may well be the rarest officially pressed VU item ever released. More copies of such legendary VU rarities such as the two USA picture sleeves, the Australian Verve 45, the U.S. Cotillion " Oh! Sweet Nuthin' " 45, the Pickwick "Ostrich" 45, etc... have been offered for sale in the past ten years than have copies of this Canadian only release. Which makes the fact that this disc is in STUNNING MINT- CONDITION an added plus. The vinyl is glossy, bright, beautifully clean & shiny, with an almost mirror like finish. It has NO SCRATCHES, NO MARKS, NO DEFECTS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE RECORD. IT IS EXTREMELY CLOSE TO PERFECT MINT CONDITION, BUT I DO NOT USE THAT GRADING. HOWEVER, IF I DID, THIS DISC WOULD BE A CANDIDATE FOR IT. IT IS THAT CLEAN! IT IS SOCLOSETOMINT. The only flaw with this disc is the writing on both sides of the label, which may be a radio station call letter or filing code, and the sticker with a filing or inventory code on the "Sunday Morning" side of the disc. This was, unfortunately, quite common practice in the 1950's & 60's for radio stations. A look at the pictures provided reveal these. But the ALL IMPORTANT VINYL is in absolutely magnificent condition. I played the disc on a high quality turntable, and was frankly astonished at how strong & powerful the playback was. This disc has a unique matrix, totally distinct from the USA VERVE pressing. The sound quality & mastering of this disc is superb. The introduction td Sunday Morning, with the chimes ringing with perfect, bell like purity, is as exciting and pure a tone as one could ever hope to hear. Nothing like playing a superb condition, 42+ year old vinyl to understand exactly what is possible with vinyl playback on a quality system. This 45 reveals the band to the best effect a vinyl disc could achieve. Here is a perhaps one time opportunity to add a near impossibly scarce Velvet Underground record to ones collection. The disc will be extremely well packaged for shipping.
