This is the original, USA pressing of the incredibly rare and much sought after 1967 vinyl LP THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO

USA 1967 rarer STEREO version on the BLACK and SILVER VERVE record label catalogue number V6 - 5008 - that is, the Verve record label with the big "T"

NEAR MINT CONDITION VINYL AND VIRTUALLY PERFECT SOUNDING AUDIO!!

The outer gatefold sleeve is in very good condition overall but there are some blemishes which I have highlighted in the accompanying photos. In particular : 1. The top of the banana (beside where it says "PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE" ) is torn but has been stuck back on, 2. There is a crease (with some tearing in evidence) towards the bottom of the banana, again where an attempt hs been made to peel off the banana, 3. There is a 1cm indentation to the immediate left of the middle of the banana, 4. There is a small (less than 1cm) gash on the side of the front cover situated at the middle. Each of these blemishes, though not major, are clearly visible. The rest of the gatefold sleeve is in very good condition : there are some minor blemishes such as very mild ringwear on the reverse side, some light grubbiness/discolouration around the edges, some very light rectangular discolouration in the top left hand corner of the reverse side where I suspect a sticker has been removed, but the spine is nicely intact, all writing (both on the spine, the back and front outer sleeve covers, and the inside of the gatefold) is perfectly legible, and the inside gatefold photos are virtually unblemished.

The vinyl is near mint and retains virtually all of it's sheen from the day the record was purchased. Hold the vinyl up to a bright light and you can just detect the odd very superficial hairline along with a couple of small superficial scuffs : very impressive indeed for a 44 year old piece of vinyl! The record labels are also both near mint : on close inspection, and again only under a bright light, there are a few very mild surface hairlines on each side around the centre hole. And as you would expect, the audio quality is superb : no clicks, jumps, or scuffs, and just the mildest of crackle during the intro to the first tracks on each side. Super audio quality which far surpasses that of a modern day CD or even later vinyl reissues!!

In summary I have no hesitation as grading the overall condition of this item as at least "VERY GOOD" - the condition of the vinyl and audio quality is brilliant but the gatefold sleeve does suffer from the aforementioned imperfections so if you're after a mint copy of this groundbreaking album then don't bid! And "groundbreaking" is exactly what this album was : not just the usual "classic" but influential to the extent that it was an inspiration to the likes of Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and even The Beatles. This record, in stereo, on the much heralded Verve "T" logo label, complete with the original peeleable front cover banana will only increase in rarity and value.
