Description

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO

Produced by Andy Warhol

Verve Records V6-5008

“Not sine the Titanic ran into the iceberg has there been such a collision as when Andy Warhol’s Exploding Plastic Inevitable burst upon the audiences at The Trip Tuesday.  For once a Happening really happened, and it took Warhol to come out from New York to show how it’s done.  The Velvet Underground is so far out that it makes the tremendous thumping beat of the great, groovy group which opened the program sound passé.” – Los Angeles Times

The vinyl is beautiful and looks barely played as there are no deep grooves or scratches, and a high gloss.  Verve Blue label.

There are marks in vinyl record around blue label that read: “VG-5008 SIDE 1 MGS558 REV K 15”; and the same on the reverse side “VG-5008 SIDE 2 MGS558 REV K 15”.  The “K” on both sides is sideways.

Cover is in good condition, some outer wear, no handwriting and no splits.  The cover art (by Andy Warhol) Banana tip is missing and is separated near the top, but still intact.

The Velvet Underground was an American rock band first active from 1965 to 1970 (& 1970 to 1973 in a different incarnation). Its best-known members were New Yorker Lou Reed and Welshman John Cale.  Although never commercially successful during their time, the Velvet Underground are often cited by critics as one of the most important and influential groups of their era. A famous remark, often attributed to British musician Brian Eno, is that while only a few thousand people bought the first Velvet Underground record upon its release, almost every single one of them was inspired to start a band. Their sound influenced many later musicians in many genres, including experimental, punk, new wave, and gothic rock.

I have been asked the question: "Dear hillsoftn, Can you tell me what year is on this album. Thanks, Kenneth - twister1111-123."  Okay folks, I have searched the record over high and low side to side and label to label and find no date on the record album I have listed.  I added some pics to this listing to try to help solve this question.  I scanned the back of the cover upper portion and lower portion, the left inside album cover, and both sides of the blue label.  I also took some close up pictures of the inside of the album cover middle sections.  Any other suggestions??  Sorry - I'm not a record / music buff.  Stella
