GRADING SYSTEM: EX+, EX, VG+, VG   (All records are orig. vintage pressings from my own collection)

Excellent Plus (EX+): Optically:  No obvious signs of wear, only a few faint superficial hairlines under bright light from the inner sleeve or storage are present. With clean looking labels the record looks like it was hardly ever played. Some vintage US records may show under bright light only, some slight pressing shadows (different refraction) from the manufacture that never affect the play (not to be confused with the full “cloudy” US vintage  records which may have a constant background static from the manufacture). Play-Test: The record plays clean with at most minor low-level faint occasional surface static or a couple of very occasional one-off slight ticks present from the manufacture.

Excellent (EX or VG++): Optically: An excellent quality looking record with some superficial paper scuffs and hairlines. The record looks like it has been played but handled with extreme care. A few spindle traces are visible.  Play-Test: The record plays clean with some slight surface noise and/or some slight occasional ticks between the tracks, at the lead in or in the quiet passages.

Very Good Plus (VG+): Optically: The record surface shows some signs of wear, hairlines and  some thin superficial scratches but nothing that can be felt with the fingertip. Play-Test: The record plays with some constant low-level surface noise/crackle and some occasional ticks.

Very Good (VG): Optically: All of the defects found on a VG+ record are more pronounced on a VG disc. Play-Test: Surface noise, crackle and more ticks are permanently heard but will not overpower the music. There is at least one thin scratch that can be felt with the fingertip affecting the sound with repetitive ticks/pops. However such a record plays still very dynamically with no distortion and no skips.

Good (G): I do not offer records that play with distortion and/or skips.

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO – Same, unpeelable (printed) Banana, early US Press. Mar. 12, 1967, stereo deep groove pressing Vinyl LP, MGM VERVE V6/5008, non-laminated foldout cover.

In 1961, MGM  bought  Norman Granz’  VERVE  Label.  During  the  1960’, MGM  extended  VERVE  with  a  rock  line  featuring  The Velvet Underground,  The Mother of Invention, Nico etc. From the early 1961 until 1971, MGM-VERVE labels read at the bottom:                                        “MGM RECORDS–A DIVISION OF METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER, INC. Made in U.S.A.” From late 1971 until 1976, MGM-VERVE  labels read at the bottom:      “MANUFACTERED BY MGM RECORDS, INC., 7165 SUNSET BOULEVARD, HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. 90046"

Therefore this copy is an orig. deep groove press. released late 1967 or 1968 with the orig. MGM-VERVE address but with a revised cover.

Somehow it’s very difficult to grade this record accurately. The thick Vinyl looks often played (many visible spindle traces on the labels) and shows some wear as well as hairlines, scuffs and mostly superficial thin scratches. Beautifully recorded and engineered original deep groove pressing with a strong, deep, rich and vibrant sound and a powerful dynamic cut. The record plays very dynamic with no distortion and no skips but with constant background noise/crackle and ticks mainly in the quiet passages and between the tracks which do not overpower the music. A short needle scratch on the very beginning of the Side Two is resulting in few repetitive ticks. According to the above-mentioned grading system, the optically grade of the record is VG- but plays better, approx. VG to EX-.  The Cover shows wear, some yellowish stains, ring wear, edge wear, corner wear (please see the Photos).

Es ist sehr schwierig diese Patte richtig zu bewerten. Die LP wurde oft abgespielt (viele Spindle Traces auf den Labels sichtbar) und weist leichte Abnutzungen als auch haarfeine Kratzer, Scuffs (Schlieren) und meist oberflächliche feine dünne Kratzer auf. Die LP ist eine orig. deep groove Pressung die sehr dynamisch spielt, ohne Distorsionen oder Skips (Sprünge) aber mit konstanten Hintergrundgeräuschen / Knistern und Ticks hauptsächlich in den leisen Passagen die aber nicht lauter sind als die Musik. Wegen eines dünnen Kratzers ganz am Anfang der Side Two sind paar wiederholte Ticks zu hören. Gemäß dem oben genannten Bewertungssystem der optische Zustand ist VG- aber spielt ca. VG bis EX-.  Das Cover hat  Gebrauchsspuren, gelbliche Flecken, Ring Wear, Abnutzung auf Kanten und Ecken (bitte siehe die Fotos).
