THE VELVET UNDERGROUND

& Nico (Verve V6 5008) 1967

 

Here's a lovely US copy of The Velvet Underground’s landmark debut, with the rare peelable banana sleeve. The matrix numbers are V6-5008 SIDE-1 MGS-558 REV and V6-5008 SIDE-2 MGS-559 RE-1. This is a standard 1960s stock copy, without the picture of Eric Emerson on the back cover.

 

SLEEVE

The thick gatefold sleeve is in solid VG+ condition, with a perfect spine and light general wear. The banana is all there, though the stem is torn at the top. At some stage it has been peeled and stuck back upside down (see mark in picture),  though it is now back in place. There is a 3-inch split in the top seam, from the opening edge. All in all, it looks great.  

 

VINYL

Graded under direct light, the glossy disc is in beautiful NM shape, and looks barely played. The labels are perfect too, and there’s even a small residual bit of vinyl in the spindle hole.
