PLEASE NOTICE THAT I ALWAYS SHOW YOU THE ACTUAL VINYL UNLIKE MOST SELLERS WHO ENCLOSE THE RECORD IN A SLEEVE AND SHOW YOU THE LABEL ONLY.
If you notice any whitish spots on either side of the record these are simply specks of dust or tiny hairs which have been cleaned off. Similarly, any odd shapes near the top of the record are reflections from some net curtains.
Records are graded in accordance with Record Collector's Grading System as follows, although I tend to go below to ensure you are not disappointed when you receive the record:
MINT: Self-explanatory. Unplayed.
NEAR MINT: Almost MINT - maybe played once or twice.
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Some background noise may be heard. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
+/- indicates a grading in between categories.
Side one: Real Wild Child
This is a fast tempo rockabilly sizzler recorded during July/August at Norman Petty's recording studio in Clovis, New Mexico with Buddy Holly on lead guitar, Joe Maudlin on bass, Jerry ‘Ivan’ Allison on lead vocal, Bo Clarke on drums with The Roses (Bob Linville, Ray Rush, David Bigham) background vocals. Norman Petty, producer.
Real Wild Child is rare in this near mint condition. This record usually shows up well-played in the good to very good plus range.
Side two: Oh, You Beautiful Doll
This was first recorded in 1912. It is a fast-tempo rocker with the same line up and recording information as Real Wild Child except The Roses weren't involved and Jerry ‘Ivan’ Allison sounds like he's singing underwater.
Oh You Beautiful Doll has two small, light haze marks which do not affect playback.
General
Both sides are play graded near mint with excellent fidelity, no distortion and both sides play quietly at the lead-in.
Ivan was born Jerry ‘Ivan’ Allison in 1939, in Hillsboro, Texas. Signed to Decca label in January 1956 and recorded in Nashville as Buddy Holly & The Three Tunes with Sonny Curtis (lead guitar), Don Guess (bass) and Jerry ‘Ivan’ Allison (drums). In February 1957, Holly assembled his backing group, The Crickets: Jerry ‘Ivan’ Allison (drums), Niki Sullivan (rhythm guitar), and Joe B. Mauldin (bass), for recording at Norman Petty’s studio in Clovis, New Mexico. Signed to Brunswick and Coral labels (subsidiaries of Decca Records). Because of contractual arrangements, all Brunswick records were released as The Crickets, and all Coral records were released as Buddy Holly. Holly split from The Crickets in the autumn of 1958. Holly (age 22), Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash near Mason City, Iowa, on 3 February 1959. Holly was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and won a Grammy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
Buddy Holly & The Crickets recorded a string of well-crafted Rock & Roll classics between 1956-59 including Rock Around With Ollie Vee (1956), That'll Be The Day (1957), Peggy Sue (1957), Oh Boy (1957), Maybe Baby (1958), Rave On (1958), Think It Over (1958), Fool's Paradise (1958), It's So Easy (1958), Early In The Morning (1958), Heartbeat (1958) and Raining In My Heart (1959) among others.
Jerry ‘Ivan’ Allison released two singles, the first being Real Wild Child (1958) followed by Frankie Frankenstein in 1959.
