Description
"Whiplash" was one of the last songs Metallica recorded for their debut Kill 'Em All in 1983, but it was the first thing they released as a single. Megaforce Records put out the group's first two albums in July of 1983 & July of 1984, and this 4-song EP came out halfway between 'em. This is now VERY HARD TO FIND. "Jump In The Fire" actually is first, and the only standard album track among them. The version of "Whiplash" here is the 'neck brace remix'. Side Two is called the 'Live Side', but those songs aren't actually live. They're studio alternates of "Seek And Destroy" & "Phantom Lord" from the versions Metallica decided to go with on the album. The people who started Megaforce, one of whom died just a few months ago, were the biggest Metallica fans at the time. They probably just wanted some crowd noise added in at the beginning & end so everyone else would understand just how exciting this band is. It sounds really cool to hear those alternate versions, and the record is Near Mint. It plays like when I bought it new in the store in January of '84.
