This auction is for an Excellent VERY RARE Antique 7" KILTIES BAND Phonograph Record from 1902 with a PLAID or Tartan #1488 Victor LABEL . The record is in excellent playing condition! This record was only made for a few months before being replaced by a black label because it was difficult to read the gold print on top of the plaid background. Not to mention this is the first record that had the skipper dog logo and "his master's voice" logo.
The record is titled: #1488 "JOHN ANDERSON MY JOE" by the KILTIES BAND
The recording was made in Philadelphia.  The Kilties Band of Canada was doing concerts at Willow Grove Park in Pennsylvania on July 12, 1902.  Since this recording was made on July 16, 1902. It makes sense that it was Philadelphia.  The record was first issued in 1902 with the fancy, hard to read plaid label. It was afterwards put out with a black label that was readable. This early and quite rare recording is one of the more unique labels put out by the Victor Company.
Johnson was ordered not to use the word Gram-o-phone on March 1, 1901. The result was the Improved Record label, which dropped the Consolidated Talking Machine Company name. This label also reflected Johnson's move from Philadelphia to Camden, although some reverse-side stickers from this period list both cities (the studio remained in Philadelphia for some time after the move). 
   The   Improved Gram-O-Phone Record   was   the first run of records ever to carry a paper label but lasted only a few months.     Through a court injunction,  Eldridge Johnson was prohibited from using the term  Gram-O-Phone  on the labels of any of  his so-called superior records thus the  IMPROVED RECORD ,  (which is the disc for sale), was the label that  remained on his disc but once again only briefly.   Once he moved his operation to New Jersey, Eldridge Johnson's Consolidated Talking Machine Company reorganized and became the Victor Talking Machine Co..
