Description

Here is something that I bet NONE of you have in your collection...it's a limited pressing promotional record from Damon Recording Studio in Kansas City, Missouri, featuring a group that I could find NOTHING about...Sunshine Shoppe. Evidently this is one of only two records they ever made. The other was a pressing of 100 about a year later (different songs). I could be wrong, of course, but looking in all of the usual places, I could find absolutely no other information. It was recorded on January 14, 1970. This is according to a scanned copy of the studio's log book that I was able to find on the University of Missouri-Kansas City's library website. Evidently, much of the Damon studio archive was donated to them. I have no other clues as to who was in this group or if they were even from the KC metro area. There is a name in the log book, Dennis Simmons, but I could find no info on him, either. Regardless, there were 300 copies of this record pressed to be used as promos. It is designated D-12870-A and D-12870-B.
The two songs are Minstrel Sunday, which was originally recorded by Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge in 1971; and Too Crowded, evidently written by the person whose name was in the log book, Dennis Simmons.
Damon Recording Studios were known for several pioneering artists, including Walkenhorst-DePugh, The Walkenhorst Brothers and Phantasia.

The disk is in VG+ condition, with light surface scuffs and one small visible scratch not affecting playback. I have included digitized versions of both sides of the record, and these are raw versions with no editing.
