Description

Originally, before the smash Iconic hit "FUNKYTOWN", the original song that caught Casablanca Records interest was the first instrumental Disco tune from Lipps, Inc., ca. 1979 entitled "ROCK IT". This became something of a hit locally in the Minneapolis area.

Released nationally in late 1979, "Rock It" failed to catch on; the group's debut album, Mouth Music, was released in early 1980 and when "Funkytown" was pulled as a second single, it was an instant hit, climbing to number one just a couple months later and spending four weeks on top. In the wake of its success, "Rock It" was re-released, but flopped again.

This is an EXTREMELY RARE 33 1/3 LP single of -ROCK IT- on both sides. This was the very first pressings from Flight Time Records, preceeding the Casablanca release with Funkytown on the Mouth to Mouth album.

This type of LP was sent to local and national DJ’s and nightclubs to get play time and get into the marketplace..

How did I come in contact with it? I am myself a musician, a violinist & had put together the violin section for the original recordings of Rock it and Funkytown and got this pre-release Single LP from Steve Greenberg. I have had it in my possession ever since.

CONDITION: VG Condition. There is one scratch across one side of the LP on Side B- Does not affect the playability. Again, I owned this album since new. It never had heavy play at a Disco or Radio Station.
