About This Record.  This is an original USA copy of one of the rarest Lightnin' Hopkins records entitled "Lightnin' Hopkins and the Blues" that was released on the black Herald Records label in 1959 in a very small quantity.  The yellow label Herald LP release of this followed also in 1959, and then a multi-colored label in 1961.  These black label versions are rare and sound amazing, part because the vinyl weighs precisely 201 grams!  Much more than the somewhat flimsy reissues. Cover:  Very Good Plus (VG+).  Please see all 6 photos of the cover.  The cover is in amazingly nice shape except there are 3 small now brown pieces of cellophane tape, two on the top seam and one on the bottom that cover up either small splits, or splits that were about to happen.  This cover is heavy and most are serious split and have nasty ring wear.  This one not.  Just a touch of ring wear if you hold the front LP at the right angle on the top, and some light wear on the back white cover at the top.  This is still a nice cover, but not EX.  Nicest cover I've every seen.  Please see photos.
Inserts  Comes cleaned in a new Rice Paper equivalent sleeve.
Vinyl:  Excellent Minus (EX-).  The original 201 gram vinyl(!!) has just a few light marks; amazing condition for a blues record and a record from the 1950s; very lightly played and no "bad stylus issues" and the vinyl still glistens like new.  Took me decades to source.  You can see the matrix numbers in my photos
Label Condition:  Near Mint Minus (NM-).  If you look real hard you can see two short marks near the spindle on each side of the black labels.  Pristine for this release! :)

Vinyl Grading:  My grading [Cover/Vinyl]  F/G-/G/G+/VG-/VG/VG+/EX-/EX/EX+/NM/Sealed.  Records are visually graded unless otherwise indicated because some of these blues recordings, are by nature, not the best recordings and everybody has a different point of view about what a NM looking records plays like when the source are old recordings that themselves have crackle, etc.
