PLEASE NOTE: I WILL ONLY GRADE AN OPENED LP NEAR MINT (NM) IF I CAN GUARANTEE IT HAS NEVER BEEN PLAYED (i.e. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER). OTHERWISE, NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-) IS THE ABSOLUTE HIGHEST GRADE I WILL ASSIGN AN OPENED LP.
OFF-THE-CHARTS-RARE privately pressed SIGNED hard psych rock 45 out of Louisiana from 1976!!! I have been collecting psych for over 40 years and never seen another one of these. Anywhere. There are absolutely ZERO Google hits for this 45. I have a gazillion CD compilations of "rare" psych 45s and never seen this track or artist on any of them. Ever. It's as if this 45 never existed and suddenly appeared out of a vacuum. The A side is Never but for my money the B side (Beyond The Night) beats it by a hair. The Hammond B-3 solo around the 1:15 mark is a wah-wah drenched freakout that really takes you by surprise and is a feast for the ears. Listen once and it will make you want to listen again. Listen again and you're hooked. Both sides are great snapshots of what hard garage psych sounded like at the time (the mid-70s). Just under-produced enough to give them a certain endearing quality, particularly to hard psych collectors who like their 45s gritty and tough. Released on the tiny Revolution label, who never seemed to exist either. Zero Google hits for them as well so you know this was their sole release in their nanosecond of a lifespan. According to the label this track was taken from their self titled LP "ECLIPSE", catalog number VPNM 2036. And, of course, there are absolutely zero Google hits for that title or catalog number either. Even more of a head scratcher is the fact that a considerable amount of time and money went into the manufacturing of this 45 as not only was a glossy picture sleeve produced (see photo 2) but also a fancy fold-out black and white press photo featuring the boys in their best Saturday Night duds, white suit and all (see photo 5)!! I have posted both songs in their entirety on Soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/user-536209246/eclipse-never and at https://soundcloud.com/user-536209246/eclipse-beyond-the-night. Vinyl is a gorgeous VG++/NM- and glossy cover is VG/VG+ with NO splits and a bit of ring. This 45 has been SIGNED by three of out of five members under their brief bio on the rear of the sleeve near the bottom (see photo 6)!! This is the 45 with which to impress your know-it-all music expert friend (and we all have one). If you've never seen it before you will never see it again so don't sleep.
