Description
Here is a 1926 shellac VICTOR WHITE-LABEL TEST PRESSING of "BIRDIE" by ROGER WOLFE KAHN AND HIS ORCHESTRA. It's a peppy and perfectly danceable tune, admirably performed and Orthophonically recorded. There is no catalogue number in the dead-wax, indicating that this truly IS a TEST pressing, a pre-release, made before the number was assigned.
PHOTO: The barely visible matrix information, etched into the label area by the conscientious engineer at the original session of March 10, 1926, was retrieved under ultra-violet light, with help from the James West Space Telescope.
This original 1926 White Label Victor test BVE-34693-2 is in clean E condition. Same take as the issued record (Victor 19996).
*****
These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
An Unsolicited Testimonial!: "Superbatone is one of the coolest people on eBay - seriously. An excellent source for music, knowledge, and whimsy, and an asset to the community who cares about music and its preservation. It goes without saying that he is an expert in all facets surrounding 78’s and their content."
And another: “Descriptions as passionate and informative as superbatone’s are commensurate with what you receive: beautiful records, fast service - and even his writing on the shipping box is interesting, artistic, and indicative of the care taken for these records and to transport them safely.”
