Description

VINTAGE 78rpm RECORDS (60 assorted) including one 3.5 inch diameter and other “curiosities”!
An interesting variety of 60 vintage 78rpm records, all in paper or cardboard sleeves.  All are 10 inch, except one 8 inch and one which is only 3.5 inch diameter (described below)!
There are some intriguing rarities and curiosities, including the following (pictured in photos 2-6):
• Empire Day Messages (R.E. 284) from King George V and Queen Mary (recorded at Buckingham Palace), the flip-side of which is: Empire Day Record (“God Save the King” and “Home Sweet Home”)
• Coronation Capers (Rex 9026) Souvenir record for the Coronation of King George VI (in original Rex “Coronation Records” sleeve)
• “Cohen on the ‘Phone” (Columbia 4036, 80rpm) – the classic 1913 comedy monologue by Joe Hayman, the flip-side of which is the equally comical and revered “Abe Levi’s Wedding Day” monologue
• “Abantu Abamnyama” (Columbia YE 105, pressed in South Africa) by “Zululand War Dancers (with Tom-Tom)”!
• “Rhymes” part 1 and 2 (Eclipse JW495/496) sung by Leslie Sarony – 8 inch diameter (in original Eclipse paper cover, labelled “6 old pence” each!)
• Rare 3.5 inch diameter disc – Part 1: “Reginald Dixon Himself”, the flip-side of which is Part 2: “I Do Like to be Beside the Seaside”.  This has a slight chip on the edge of one side (about half the width of the running-in groove only)
The rest of the collection includes a wide variety of artists, including:
• George Formby • Alma Cogan • Bill Hayley and his Comets • Dinah Shore • Billy Cotton • Eddie Calvert • Harry James • Jack Parnell and his Musicmakers
The records themselves could probably do with a good clean and some have a few chips and scratches.  The sleeves are in various conditions – some are the original record company sleeves, others are plain cardboard (some written on) – some are in good condition, others are inevitably dirty/tatty.
All are housed in a wooden record carrier (as in the photo) which is in poor, tatty condition, but provides the best way of sending the records, cushioned inside this strong box with a cardboard outer carton.
This collection is being sold with no reserve, so good luck with your bidding!  A fascinating, varied and collectable selection of vintage recordings, getting on for 15kg in total!
UK buyers only please.
Carriage cost is for UK Mainland only (excluding Highlands and Islands).  Alternatively, I’m quite happy for the buyer to collect the item.
