Description
VINTAGE Marlene Sai "Sweet Someone" LP 33 Record Hawaiian Lehua Records
ARTIST: Marlene SaiTITLE: Sweet Someone
D E S C R I P T I O N
Marlene Sai is Hawaii's classic-style female solo singer. Born in Honolulu, Hawai'i, she is of Hawaiian-Chinese heritage. Sai has been referred to as one of the true icons of the islands and a living legend of Hawaiian music. PBS Hawaii's Leslie Wilcox says of Sai "There are only a handful of true divas in Hawaiian music, women who wrap their powerful voices with grace, elegance and beauty. You can add to the list Marlene Sai."
This is a 1965 print of Marlene Sai's "Sweet Someone." On the album she's accompanied by Buddy Fo and the Invitations.
From the album cover:
"This someone... and she is really someone... was never sweeter. The remarkable and appealing voice of the teenager that captured the hearts of the island so few years ago has come of age... has grown up to more than fulfill the promise it showed then. The quality is clear and clean and true... and sweet. The delivery is unselfconscious and effortless. The sentiment is honest. The style is classically simple, for no tricks of adornment are necessary."
The cover of the album is in Very Good condition, showing some ring wear, the front also has one small area in the front where the paper is won down to the pulp, that measures 1/2 inch at its widest. Bottoms, seams and corners show shelf wear. There is also a smudge at the top right of the cover that measures 5/8” at its widest. The vinyl itself is also Very Good.
