GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie vengono controllati sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i 33 giri in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1. Per EP e singoli a 45 giri utilizzo un Thorens TD 166 BC con testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All LPs in auction have been fully heard on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge. I listen EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : bella colonna sonora con idee musicali interessanti soprattutto per ben combinare melodie armoniose a sonorità aggressive come quelle contenute nel funk. Possiamo così ascoltare intensi temi descrittivi o atmosferici che dir si voglia da un grossa formazione dove sezione ritmica, sezione d'archi e sezione ottoni, forse qui la più rilevante, contribuiscono a piacevoli e non scontate musicalità. Al di là di questa generale considerazione troviamo alcune tracce in cui il funk è padrone. Fra queste: "Crazy Soldiers" (a2) con ottimi fiati ben supportati dalla batteria, "Black and White Wedding" (a6) anche con qualche venatura jazzistica, "The Crazy Cadillac" (a9) dal ritmo trascinante scandito dai fiati, dal basso e dalla batteria. "Motorcycle on Rue de Rivoli" (b2) dal tessuto percussivo con chitarra, organo e fiati. "The Bubblegum Brawl" (b5) con belle sonorità dell'Hammond e decisi interventi di batteria e strumenti a fiato. Fuori dalla musica funk menziono la particolarissima "Dance of Young Hasidim" (b1) con alcune sonorità esotiche e "A Coward in the Night" (b3) dove moog e basso duettano un pò ossessivamente creando un'atmosfera strana e magica.

Notes : a beautiful soundtrack with interesting ideas especially in combining admirably harmonious melodies to aggressive sonorities as those characterizing the funk music. Thus we can hear intense descriptive, or atmospheric if you prefer, themes led by a big band wherein the rhythm section, string section and brass section, perhaps the most relevant here, contribute to a pleasant and not obvious musicality. Above and beyond this general consideration there are some traces in which funk music is the boss. Among them: "Crazy Soldiers" (a2) with excellent brass instruments well supported by drums, "Black and White Wedding" (a6) also with some jazzy vein, "The Crazy Cadillac" (a9) from the wild rhythm punctuated by the brass section, bass and drums. "Motorcycle on the Rue de Rivoli" (b2) from percussive texture with guitar, organ and brass. "The Bubblegum Brawl" (b5) with very nice Hammond sonorities and remarkable involvement of drums and brass instruments. Out of the funk music I mention the very special "Dance of Young Hasidim" (b1) with some exotic sound and "A Coward in the Night" (b3) where moog and bass duet a little obsessively creating a weird and magical atmosphere.
