Real Gone Music are second-to-none when it comes to putting out true indie exquisites, manning every aspect of each release from the ground up. ‘Angel Rat’ is one such album, courtesy of their favourites Voivod. A reissue of a 1991 thrash gem, this is a rapid oscillator on metal’s native shiny/gritty scale, drawing on a range of tropes from and including progressive rock, alt-metal, the gothic, pirates... Expect time signature changes, doomy church organs thrown in amongst muddy thrash backings, and a mood of grim, power-seizing triumphalism on lead tracks like ‘Best Regards’ and ‘Nuage Fractal’. A well deserved reissue for this cult classic.
