Description
Very Rare 65' UK Decca(F 12218) original;Sonny Childe-Giving Up On Love/Mighty Nice.In Very Good-/Plays Very Good+ condition.Not Mint,I'm afraid,but plays really well and is so hard to find in any condition,this beat ballad is one of the absolute gems of UK-recorded Northern Soul-up there with Chapter Five on CBS and Frankie&Johnny on Decca;a terrific version of Jerry Butlers'hit,actually surpassing the original,with an inspired,atmospheric production and typically classy 60's British orchestral sound.Sonny was a fine US Soul man then based in the UK-he later changed his name to R B Greaves and had a couple of hits on Atco in the late 60's.
The A side,Giving Up,has a number of surface marks, but all are light and there is no surface noise until the very end during the fade out, when there is a slight split-second hiss.There is no discernable scratch there,and cleaning has'nt cured it-it may well be a pressing fault.It is only a split second though and only a quiet hiss,and is on the fade out,so it's not too bad really.The B side is only Good,with a number of surface marks and one scuff mark that can be felt .Overall,though,still a pretty good copy of a so-hard to find and superb 45'.It's a little hard&sad to part with as I've had it for many years,but I have it on CD and,well, I need the money.
