Description
Here it is, the rare true first pressing of the first Van Der Graaf Generator LP issued on the Mercury label in 1969. There were two versions of this album: one contains 'Necromancer' while the other contains 'Squid One'. The track listings and catalog numbers are the same, only the matrix numbers in the dead wax are different. The matrix for 'Squid One' is SR 61238-BM2 while that for Necromancer is SR 61238-BM5. This is an authentic BM2 copy with Squid One. All copies issued after BM2 contain Necromancer.
The vinyl is still in excellent(some would easily call it near mint) while the jacket has seen better days. The LP plays fantastically!

Visual: Glossy excellent LP! I have bought "near mint" LP's off Ebay that did not look as nice as this vinyl! No marks, just superficial scuffing. Some numbers have been written in ink on the labels. Otherwise labels in excellent condition. Overall a top copy of this very obscure LP!
Play: Recently played start to finish on my Thorens TD 165 turntable and it played well. Some occasional light surface noise but never overpowering the music. I heard some tics for several rotations on track 4 of side 1. No skipping. Overall a very pleasant listen.
Jacket sleeve: Good condition with heavy wear along edges. Years ago the top edge was completely split and I glued it back together. The bottom edge wants to split and has for about two inches at the opening. Front still has great color present. Also there is a small cut out drill hole at top right. Back is still mostly white. Really, it is not a bad jacket. I graded it good due to the edge issues. LP housed in plastic resealable outer sleeve to avoid wear.
Inner sleeve: Missing in action for many a moon now. LP housed in anti-static sleeve. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally: As an audiophile I have attempted to disclose everything of significance for this great LP which comes from my personal collection.
