Up for sale is my copy of Van Halen’s 1984 on Mobile Fidelity’s UltraDisc One Step series, the top-shelf treatment MoFi gives to a handful of titles each year. This one was mastered straight from the original analog tapes, transferred to DSD256, and cut using the one step stamper process that skips two generations of the usual plating chain. The whole run was limited to 7,500 numbered copies, and this is copy 1999, numbered on the back of the box. Box shrink is still intact.
I opened it and played it twice, both times on a clean, well maintained table with a fresh stylus, so the vinyl itself has seen minimal wear. Everything that came in the box is here: both records and the booklet. No seam splits on the box, though there’s some minor wear to the bottoms of the sleeves. Check the photos for a close look at the exact condition, inside and out.
I’m only letting this one go because I’m thinning out some duplicate pressings in my collection. As good as this edition sounds, I’ve found I just prefer the convenience of a single-disc 33rpm pressing day to day. If you’re the kind of listener who wants the full One Step experience, though, this is a great chance to grab a numbered copy.
