Various Artists - compact 500 (LTD 5LP Box + 10 "Vinyl)

Description Details   Over the decades, the image of compact has settled in our heads as a pirate ship that defies the dangers of the seven world oceans of the music market. Sometimes it slides with a tailwind through calm water, sometimes it has to survive violent storms. When we set the sails in 1993, we would not have dreamed that our journey continues after over three decades and now 500 publications.

The 500 is a rarely achieved catalog number in our fast-moving business and is therefore to be duly celebrated with a lush 5LP box. In a democratic process, we selected 50 pearls from the thousands of tracks from the last 33 1/3 years and pressed it to 5 brightly colored vinyls. In addition to many compact recergreens, there are also some real rarities of the early “compact sound of cologne”, which lovingly shine here in new splendor.

The box also contains a 144-page book that tells the compact history from 1993 to the present day with detailed texts and pictures. In addition to the diverse musical and graphic achievements of compact, multidisciplinary networking on the visual arts are also illuminated.

The Bonus Picture Disc is opened with a symbolic bell of 500 bass drums, followed by 50 endless grooves of the 5 compact founders, which grind into infinity at 133 1/3 BPM and the “33 1/3 Years Loop Opera”, in which the loops are put together into a track that is more in its reduced essence than the sum of its individual parts. The magic of the grooving loop minimalism and the “art of omitting” are once again brought to the proverbial point.

On 23 May 2025 opened the large compact 500 art exhibition in the venerable Cologne Art Association in parallel to the release. The entire visual cosmos of compact is shown here with the involvement of many well -known artists in a form never seen on three floors. Of course, the vernissage party can also dance and celebrate for DJ sets and live shows of the compact allstars.

The last is the bass drum.

About Us

Our founding year 1998 - Long after vinyl declared dead and long before vinyl was celebrated as a cool thing - proves that we are real Vinylnerds. We only started as a small panel manufacturer from home. Later we opened our first real record store and then of course our own online shop. Everything out of passion and always with the motto: Save the Vinyl. What is not available online is available in our shop in overseas, spring path 22. Overseas? Yes. Overseas on Lake Chiemsee. Right on the A8 motorway, between Munich and Salzburg. Here you will also find a fine range of second-hand vinyl.
