Description
This is the extremely rare and somewhat legendary original 1970 vinyl pressing of the Just Another Diamond Day LP by Vashti Baunyan on the UK Phillips label (catalogue n. 6308019). The record has reached something of an iconic status, embodying a dream of escape from the urban and commercial ratrace and a determination to reach a alternative remote and rural ideal. Vashti Bunyan's recent rediscovery by fans of new and psychedelic folk adds to the disc's preciousness. A particular and unique addition here is the inclusion of a letter written by Vashti"s partner and travelling companion (and co-writer of three of the LP's tracks) Robert Lewis, describing the album's iminent release: "... We so hope that it will give pleasure to you and others. The songs were given to us at the top of hills, in rain storms and snow, tapped out in time with Bessys hoof beats and around the quiet stick fire of days done dark. One day when we have Bess in a stable of her own we will see you and draw you around our hearth." The letter is signed (by Robert Lewis) "Robert & Vashti" and in small italics "and leif." The gatefold sleeve is in very good condition with very little wear and spine wording intact. There is slight surface noise and a few slight clicks on opening tracks on both sides. The opening track on side one has one tiny jump. Otherwise, the record is in immaculate playing condition. The labels are in excellent condition also. The matrix numbers on the run-off grooves are: side one: 6308019 X1YV2 XX 11 2 side two: 63080192Y //1 41 11. The auction starts at a low price with no reserve. This record hardly ever comes onto the market these days and represents a highly collectable gem for folk fans and rural romantics.
