Description

Debut album of Velvet Underground & Nico, produced by Andy Warhol.  Vinyl LP Verve stereo, V6-5008.  A 1967 rock classic in near-mint to excellent-plus condition.  One of the RARE original 1960s pressings, not a re-issue.  Includes the UNPEELED BANANA ("Peel slowly and see"), designed by Andy Warhol.  (The re-issues of this album, except the 1980's Japanese re-issue, did not include the actual peel-off banana, which required special manufacturing.)  Blue and silver Verve label, made in USA (MGM).  From personal collection, one owner.  Recorded in 1966 during Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable tour.  Original lineup of Lou Reed, John Cale (recently passed away), Sterling Morrison, Maureen Tucker, and Nico.  Released March 1967.  (Note:  back cover does not include the Eric Emerson upside-down image, which he sued to have removed--all albums were re-called at the time of the lawsuit, his image was airbrushed over, then they were redistributed--this is the airbrushed cover.)  Although a commercial failure, this album became one of the most influential and critically acclaimed rock albums in history and is No. 13 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Rock Albums of All Time.  Subject matter was considered controversial at the time--some radio stations wouldn't play it and some record stores wouldn't sell it. 

The record is in near-mint to excellent-plus condition.  No scratches, no skips.  In original album sleeve, which is also in excellent-plus condition. The cover has minor age discoloration (see photo), and a small rip in the upper back seam (which just occurred as I was listing this for sale...).  Has been stored vertically in climate-controlled room for 46 years.  These original albums are very rare and hard to find.
