Description
Up for auction is an early 1968 pressing of this groundbreaking album "The Velvet Underground and Nico" on the blue Verve label with 95% (educated guess) of the original banana sticker intact (PLEASE SEE PHOTOS). The deadwax matrix is as follows: Side 1: (V6-5008 SIDE 1 MGS-558 REV) Side 2: (V6-5008 SIDE 2 MGS-559-RE-1). The album cover is a solid VG bordering on VG+. There are some splits on the top and bottom of the cover and the spine is a bit worn due to it's age (PLEASE SEE PHOTOS). The banana sticker is a solid EX and the inside of the gatefold is a solid EX as well. There is some minor shelf ware on both the back and front cover which is also due to the fact that this is a 47 year old copy. The previous owner wrote his or her last name in small letters with a blue ink pen (very faded) on the back of the cover in the middle at the very top. The vinyl overall is VG bordering on VG-. There are relatively faint paper scuffs and hairline scratches on both sides and a couple of more conspicuous small scratches on both sides as well. When played, there is surface noise and some sporadic pops but this doesn't detract from the overall listening experience especially given the age of the album. I believe that a thorough deep cleaning of the grooves would noticeably improve the sound quality. Both sides play all the way through with NO SKIPS. Both labels are in VG+ condition overall with some spindle marks on both sides. The previous owner lightly wrote his or her last name on the top part of the pointed "T" on side 1 (PLEASE SEE PHOTOS). Given the rarity of this very early pressing, the fact that there are no skips when played, and the fact that the banana sticker is almost completely intact makes this a nice addition to one's collection.
