White Light/White Heat-LP

1967 33 1/3 RPM LP release by the New York avant garde Rock band, The Velvet Underground. Group was famously sponsored by Andy Warhol, who supplies the famous "skull tattoo" cover design. (Cover features a photo taken by Billy Name of an arm with a skull tattoo. This photo is darkened and distorted and was printed in a way so that it is only visible at certain angles. The "skull" cover was only used for a limited time-MANY later copies do not feature it and have a pure black front cover.) This was the second LP for VU, recorded without Nico, and it would be the last album to feature John Cale. The group really outdoes their first effort ("VU and Nico") in every regard with "White Light", which presents a full frontal assault on the senses with it's thrashing guitars, squalling feedback, and peans to sex, violence, drug use and depravity. Copy at hand is an original Verve first press LP, with the much sought-after "skull" cover still in the original shrink wrap.
Track listing: White Light/White Heat The Gift Lady Godiva's Operation There She Comes Now I Heard Her Call My Name Sister Ray Jacket is, as we have stated, is still shrink-wrapped in the original plastic. As is inevitable, the exposed right edge has a tiny bit of wear, but 99% of the cover's surface is MINT due to it's being covered all these years. Please note: the "skull" cover is EXTREMELY hard to scan or photograph, and it is NOT visible in our scan below. Rest assured that the image IS there, and that it is in NEAR-PERFECT condition! It has been MANY years since we have since a copy of this LP with a cover in this condition as they degrade rapidly once taken out of the shrink. Disc is housed in a crisp original Verve inner sleeve. Condition of the vinyl is a bit complicated to describe. Our guess is that this LP was little played as it shows bright, shiny grooves, but very carelessly handled as it shows heavy spindling with a handful of serious scratches. A side mostly shows heavy spindle marks (including one long one), although it does have a couple of short scratches. B side shows spindling also, but also has one 3 inch long scratch which extends through "Sister Ray". However, we have estensively play-tested the LP, and the mark on "Sister Ray" does not have nearly as much effect as we would have expected. (There is NOT a repeated popping throughout the song, although sometimes it can be heard for a few revolutions at a time before fading out again.) Overall,the disc plays considerably better than anticipated, with moderate surface noise and popping, but surprisingly clear sound. Classic VU LP with rare Andy Warhol cover in near-perfect condition! Offered for a low minimum with no reserve. Condition: (M-/VG)PAYMENT METHODS
