Description
Here is a 78 RPM recording of the York Minster Bells recorded in 1928 by E.M.I. Studios of London, England. In 1927 this famous church in London installed the present day Taylor Bells which included the 10 3/4 ton Bourdon Bell, "Great Peter", which was cast that year. This album has survived in near mint condition for 85 years. There is a very shiny lustre, no spindle marking and the recording has no surface marks or defects at all! It is recorded on one side only and consists of just the ringing of the church bells lasting approximately 5 minutes. These recordings were considered lost and I could not find a referance to this particular one through Google or Bing. There is a CD of different bells in England called "Lost and Found" by Mark Regan and I believe this album is mentioned on the list as "York Minster Bells and Great Peter" The record number shows E.P. 72 on the Right side of the spindle hole with Br.1830 Speed 78 on the Left. There is an R and a T on either side of the spindle hole also. The entire title on the label shows YORK MINSTER BELLS Changes on the Peal of 12 Bells (Introducing Great Peter, the 10 3/4 tons Bourdon Bell). Stamped in the trailing portion of the record are the following. Top 2-9329 /Bottom IIA above BR1830 triangle/Left Side '4'/Right Side 'GG'. This copy is immaculate!
