Description
Randy's 104 by Richard Armstrong: Gene Nobel's Boogie b/w Gene Nobles Blues. Very rare Nashville label. Search Randy Wood + Dot Records. Randy Wood's first label, before he started Dot, this label run from his appliance store/record shop. Fine piano tribute titles to Nashville's WLAC disc jockey Gene Nobles, who was spinning R&B 78 sounds heard all over the mid continent, on clear channel WLAC, as early as 1949. This78 is pianist Richard Armstrong's only known recording. The Gene Noble's tribute titles probably got it a few spins on Gene Nobel's radio show, and it probably sold a few copies because of that. This offered Randy's 78 seems to be the only documented issue on the label, at least online. The other issues on Randy's are a complete mystery so far. No discography. This 78 is #104, so it's likely there were earlier releases. Randy Wood probably recorded other local Nashville musicians, unknown musicians like Richard Armstrong, musicians invisible to the record buying public, whom Randy Wood simply liked, or who he thought might have commercial potential. An experiment, his own label, tentative steps into the record industry. Complete failure. Randy's label 78s must have sold in very tiny quantities. Any others are undocumented, except for this one fine piano release by Richard Armstrong. Excellent solo blues piano and boogie 78 from a talented local Nashville piano man, otherwise unknown......Clean labels have a deep groove around the outside edge. Glossy shellac has some scratches and light scuffs. No high spot rubbing. Grade VG or V+.
Please listen to the unfiltered sound clips of portions of both sides.
