Description
- Guy Fallot and Monique Fallot -
- Brahms cello sonatas -
- Ducretet Thomson - 320 C 090 -
- Record : Visual : VG+ ( Evaluated under strong light )
- Listening : VG+ Overall, with significant variations throughout the record.
Playback is quite variable, with a constant underlying surface noise and occasional crackle of varying intensity. Nevertheless, the record plays surprisingly well overall, with very few actual ticks. Despite the presence of surface noise, the listening experience remains highly enjoyable.
The second movement on Side One is particularly beautiful, while the final movement plays in an almost ideal manner and approaches EX playback quality.
Side Two opens with moderate surface noise and light crackle. Even so, the superb recording quality and, above all, the extraordinary interpretation by Guy Fallot and Monique Fallot come through remarkably well. The first movement is especially impressive. There are a few passages, particularly around the middle of the second movement, where the surface noise becomes more noticeable. However, the closing section of the second movement and the entire final movement again play at a near-EX level.
What deserves special mention is that, despite the crackle and background surface noise, the musical message is never lost. The beautiful tonal qualities of both the cello and piano are preserved, allowing the artistry of these exceptional performers to be fully appreciated.
The record appears to have seen relatively little use. Most of the audible surface noise seems attributable to paper scuffing from the original inner sleeve, along with a few light hairlines. Visually, under strong direct light, the disc grades VG+.
A very respectable copy overall. It should be remembered that this is an early Ducretet-Thomson pressing—a rare and highly collectible example of French recording craftsmanship from a bygone era.
A scarce and desirable item that remains both enjoyable to listen to and worthy of a serious collection.
- All the records are evaluated under strong light to describe precisely the surfaces condition - Of course the result is oftenly less flattering than a quick look on normal light . On normal light almost every records looks more or less NM . All the records are cleaned with professional machine and listened from the beginning to the end - This is not a visual grading .
