Victor Pre Production Test Of Geraldine Farrar. Voi Che Sapete. 12-08-1908
This pre production test was recorded on December 8 1908. It was one of Farrar's shortest lived recordings in the Victor catalog. Introduced into the catalog in Feb 1909, it was removed in 1910.
This test does not have a catalog number stamped in the wax. It is right from the time after the recording was made in 1908.
This recording has been in my collection for nearly 40 years. But now I am slowly pruning my collection down to what I hope will be 300 records. So lots more facinating recordings to come.
Farrar was one of the leading members of the Metropolitan Opera House from 1906 till her retirement in the early 1920s. She often was paired with the tenor Enrico Caruso. She was also a early motion picture star. She filmed a silent picture of Carmen in which it was a more emotion and physically packed than the Opera. After filming Carmen, she was soon on stage with Caruso. Perhaps due to her actions in the movie she slapped Caruso, who slapped her back.
This rare test is in very good condition.
When sold it will be carefully packed in a new box.
