Vivian Stanshall- Men Opening Umbrellas Ahead/ WB # K56052 (England) c. 1974Wages of Wierdness from one time Bonzo- Dogger Stanshall largely a vanity press from the fine folks at Warner ( who also brought us Bugs Bunny!) Brothers. Completely self-penned save one tune) and produced by the eccentric himself, you can hear a slight similarity here and there to the Bonzo Dog band , but not near as "slapstick" or humorous stuff here, these are serious songs.
With credits including fellow dogger Neil Innes(piano/slide guitar) and then ex-"Traffic" superstars Steve Winwood (bass and organ)and Jim Capaldi (drums), Warner MIGHT have moved their initial 5K copies, who knows?? also cameo appearances Ric Gretch (Blind Faith), and Reebop and "ladyvoices" including Madeline Bell ( J.C.Superstar) served to sweeten the pot of notables on the album. The result of these contributions makes for an interesting, if slightly off-beat listen. Top notch production at Trident and Apple studios as well.
If you are looking for this tidbit, my copy is in decent, like new shape, I think it was played only once or twice in the 32 years since release. Reserve is lower than the last one so please bid and ThAnKs for L@@King in!
