Description
Offered here is a hard to find title by the great Russian violinist Toscha Seidel, coupling Rimsky-Korsakoff/Kreisler's "Chanson Arabe" with Saint-Saens' "Le Deluge", US Columbia Viva-tonal catalogue no. 9035-M, piano accompaniment by Emanuel Bay (before he went to work as Heifetz's accompanist!).
Seidel was a fellow pupil of Jascha Heifetz, Miscah Elman etc. (born the same year as Elman in 1899) of the great Russian violin teacher Leopold Auer; Seidel's sweet strong tone and brilliant technique garnered great acclaim, but he went to live and work in Hollywood, where he featured on many movie soundtracks of the 40s and 50s; his concert career therefore didn't lead to the dizzy heights and he isn't as well known today as he should be....well worth a listen!
Disc in near mint condition, virtually unmarked, plays superbly - very quiet Columbia laminate pressing, recorded late 1926.
(Disc was auditioned on a Garrard 401 Transcription deck, with SME 3009 Series II tone-arm, Shure cartridge and Expert Stylus 0.0028" diamond tip, through a Quad pre-amp and Genelec active monitors - if a disc has problems playing, they'll show up through this system!).
Supplied in stiff card outer sleeve.
Being sold as part of an ongoing clear-out - my loss is your gain!
Sold with NO RESERVE and a sensible starting bid - Good Luck!
