Description
Hi! You are bidding on a relatively rare album of English folk music by the group Vulcan's Hammer. "True Hearts and Sound Bottoms" was released in 1973 on the Brown Label, catalog number BVH1. Supposedly only 250 copies of this album were pressed. The album was rereleased in 1997 on the Porcelain label, then on CD by Radioactive in 2006.
Vulcan's Hammer were Phil and Kay Burkin, Graham Thomas, Eddy Green, and Dick Fewtrell. Instrumentation was very sparse, mainly 6 and 12 string guitars, banjo, dulcimer, and fiddle. Of the 12 tracks on the album, only one is an instrumental. What shines through on this album is the absolute joy and simplicity of these performances. Most likely, the group only pressed the initial copies to sell at their gigs, or give to their friends.
The album is in VG+ condition, with light surface noise on three tracks, and very light pops on four tracks (One light pop on "Holmfirth Anthem"; 2 light pops on "Fire and Wine"; 2 light pops on "Keys of Canterbury"; 1 light pop on "Davy Lowston."). I played the album at 1 1/2 grams, so it's possible that the pops will be less noticeable at a heavier tonearm weight. The vinyl retains its original gloss. The album does not skip anywhere.
The album jacket is one of those thin cardboard sleeves that was popular in Britain during the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is in good condition, especially considering that the album is 44 years old. There is ring wear front and back, and the back is lightly wrinkled.
The insert is a bit wrinkled and has light brown staining in places, most likely from the album jacket.
The album comes from a smoke free environment.
