WALTER DAVIS JR "Davis Cup" Blue Note 4018, "P", "RVG," DG, Mono Vinyl

This is the first-pressing 1959, RVG-stamped, Deep-Groove, "P"-pressing of WALTER DAVIS JR's "Davis Cup" on the Blue Note Inc * 47 West 63rd NYC labels of Blue Note BLP 4018. ("R" under "Note" on label) Musicians include Davis, Jackie McLean, Donald Byrd, Sam Jones and Art Taylor.

This is a brilliantly-recorded and punchy-sounding RVG engineered disc with excellent detail and resolution of all instruments; great tone and depth. Rich, clear and very dynamic. VINYL has very low level surface noise, that is barely audible in spots. Vinyl has two feelable one inch scratches. No distortion. No skips. No warps. No locked grooves. Nice gloss on both sides. As with all Lexington Ave to New York USA Blue Note pressings, imperfections do not detract from this powerfully recorded, engineered and pressed vinyl. Instruments are clear, rich, full of tone, very dynamic. Side 1: 1/2, very low level surface noise; 3 same; Side 2 (slightly noisier than 1): 1 low level surface noise, 2 series of low level repeating ticks, 3 medium volume pops and ticks. Largely clean disc.  The Deep-Grooved 47 West 63rd NYC labels are clean and show minimal spindle marks/wear.

This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
