Description

Wanda Landowska (5 July 1879  – 16 August 1959) was a Polish (later a naturalized French citizen) harpsichordist whose performances, teaching, recordings and writings played a large role in reviving the popularity of the harpsichord in the early 20th century. She was the first person to record Johann Sebastian Bach's "Goldberg Variations" on the harpsichord (1931).  Notes: Previously released as analog discs in the 1930's on Disque Gramophone: DB 4993/4 (2nd work) and DB 4908/13 (3rd work) and in the 1940's on Victor: 11-9049/51 (1st work).Compact disc.Program notes by Denise Restout with original release and matrix numbers ([6] p.) inserted in container. Performer(s): Wanda Landowska, harpsichord ; Yehudi Menuhin, violin (1st work). Production notes: Recorded Dec. 28, 1944 (1st work), July 10 and 16, 1935 (2nd work), and Nov. 1933 (3rd work).
