WARHORSE - " RED SEA ", Vertigo (6360 066) Stereo, 1972.
Extremely rare, UK first pressing LP of the classic second LP by Warhorse.
What a record! While some much lesser prog albums sound a bit like a faded cliche after all these years, others still sound and progressive and fresh as they ever did. This is most definitely one such record - musically unique and with a sound I don't think has eevr been better in all the subsequent years of recording technology 'improvements'... guitars just sound so warm and vibrant and the drum sound is super crisp, yet never over-compressed and clicky.
Like so many of these early 70s Vertigo original pressings, there's just something about the way they sound. From the recording, to the mastering and the vinyl pressing - the music seems to leap from the grooves full of energy, clarity and punch. There's a reason these 1st pressings are revered so much - way better than any subsequent issues on any format IMO.
Original unlaminated gatefold sleeve design with "VO PRICE CODE" on the rear, swirl label design and swirl inner sleeve, plus stamped matrix numbers ending in 1Y*1 and 2Y*1 clearly marking this out as the very first pressing.

Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and put in a new poly-lined inner sleeve (the original inner has been retained for originality- see photo)
CONDITION:
VINYL = EX- (No deep scratches, groove damage, excessive surface noise, distortion, etc. Pretty clean labels with only very light spindle trails - see photo. Under a strong direct light, this LP is in pretty good shape with just a few paper scuffs and a couple of other very faint surface marks - unsurprisingly, these are purely superficial and do not correlate to any audible defects. Playback it great, the music is strong, clear and punchy, certainly not suffering distortion or muffling that you would associate with over playing, which correlates with the clean labels. Byand large this record plays more to an EXCELLENT grading but I have to include it's visual appearance for the main grading. As this record plays out, there is a bit of occasional faint surface noise audible in some quieter and silent sections before and between tracks, plus the odd faint background crackle occasionally just audible.
Certainly not in museum piece/archive condition, but to my mind these slight, mainly cosmetic imperfections definitely do not ruin the listening experience and as long as you're expecting a a 60s record not some sterile CD reissue, it's still a great example or a very rare original LP. Clearly this LP has only had fairly light use in the past and is more than ready to be enjoyed as originally intended. Plus, should sell for a more realistic price than the huge premium archive copies are now hitting.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)
SLEEVE = V.G.+ (No heavy creases, no defacing, or heavy ring wear, etc . Just marked down a fraction for some light normal wear to the edges and corners, a couple of small tears on the front and back covers and other very slight signs of normal previous use - see photos for further clarification)
