WARRANT Dog Eat Dog vinyl LP 1992 Netherlands issue NM / NM

  i bought this album new/sealed up in Berkeley the year it came out, played it just once back home (to compare it to the domestic CD), and filed it away.  apparently i used the CD (which i already had) from that point on.

i will be SERIOUSLY PLAYTESTING the entire album tomorrow afternoon, and will add that info to this listing before 11pm monday (and including anything that shows up in the direct sunlight, visually).  "could it change the vinyl's grade to a VG++?"  A: sure.  i'll have the NBA playoff game on, with the sound off, to keep me right in front of the stereo (in back of me, with the TV to the front) for each entire lp side, with notebook paper/clipboard in my hand, to write down anything that i hear and just where it happened)

the jacket is definitely NM/MT -- it was filed away after just the one use
  (see my scans of its four corners, close up like a baseball card being graded).  funny (to me, having bought tons of baseball cards way back in the 60's during my grade school years) how a record that is visually an automatic NM (like this one), if you were to enlarge a scan of each of its corners, it becomes something that would have an entirely different grade were it a baseball card (where gem-mint perfect corners are required, just for starters)
 
the inner sleeve (lyrics on one side, and a photo montage on the other side) is nm/mt, with no writing on it anywhere (ditto the album jacket)

there was a FABulous seven-pages-long 'making of the album' article in "GUITAR" magazine at the time, which i will be glad to send a xerox of with the record, no charge.  (the article is in the form of a 3-headed interview with famous producer Michael Wagener and Warrant's guitar section Joey Allen and Erik Turner).

also fyi, back in 1992 i got to do (for my friend Bill Holdship who was the editor of california's BAM magazine for a few years back then, which was a big free monthly music mag, piled up for free at every record store in the state) -- a full writeup on this very album (at my request), which included an EXCELLENT jani lane interview.  (jani's end of it, that is.  i just made sure to be careful and not ask stupid questions).  and yes DUH, i think (then and now) that Dog Eat Dog/3rd lp is one of the very best (tied with anything, imho) hard rock albums of the entire 80's and 90's.  starting with NWOBHM, even.  
  since it's not linked anywhere in the whole internet, i did a few (six to be exact) scroungy-scans of its grungy 11x17 newsprint (type paper) to get almost all of it (scanned), since jani's info/opinions (before everything crashed and burned before the year was out) on all things Warrant (including that album) are super interesting, imho.

 A: YES i'm the doofus from arkansas nicknamed "metal mike" (since summer/fall 1971...which is so long ago, even i need a calculator to subtract how many years ago it was that black sabbath were the best that ever was, of exactly what it was that they did that had never ever been done before, and i mean like taylor swift type of never ever ever), anyway, yeah me, ok and whatev, who was the person who accidentally (and then five months later, semi-on-purpose) wound up with the official eternal credit/blame for labeling a certain genre of music as "heavy metal" (way back in late 1970 in a rolling stone record review of the first three super-crummy Humble Pie albums, and then about five months later in early 1971 in CREEM magazine in a record review of the VERY interesting 1st Sir Lord Baltimore lp, Kingdom Come).

(and should anyone want to yell at me for anything (regards anything in the above, or anything else at all), just look up the Rate Your Music user page for mike_in_oakland (it will come up right through google), and the "messages" cue (on the user page, suitably littered with many dirtbag-era photos of yours truly, up through 1976 KiSS ARMY little rock, anyway) is wide open, not to mention ha ha ha including the PUBLIC phone number (which comes right up on google anyway, via a first name / last name and the town of hayward CA, since forty years' and counting of having the same landphone).   yes it's the old Grand Funk Hotline (early 70's little rock / austin TX version), just relabeled with a different name.  i'm retired 24/7 so the answer phone is also on 24/7, no prob.       

ALSO -- re the last three photos in this listing:

(a) me fronting like i'm a lot better than i was (at age 19) with my main guitar, a 1953 gibson LP w/"stop" tailpiece.  i didn't ever get one bit better, but the cursed 500-lb geetar (to a skinny 118lb white boy) did eventually write 400 songs before i got rid of it (around 1980).  and it cost all of $350 (in today's $$), i.e. a whopping $75 back at the age of 14-turning-15, at a downtown little rock black-demographic record store just on the other side (the east side) of Main St/downtown.

(b)  me in summer 2004 with the black WARRANT t-shirt on, holding a melody maker knockoff they called a Epiphone Olympic (don't ask, i hated the piece of junk and eventually wanted to set it on fire)

 (c) and this is the good one -- circa early 1972, my brother/sibling (age 15) with his very first serious guitar (unless you count a junky Kay-model Silvertone gtr from a local pawnshop that i gave him when he was age 13) -- yep, it's a 1961 Les Paul SG (and note the 2nd lp Blue Cheer centerfold up in back of his Fender dual showman rig)

**(and keeping my three black WaRRaNT shirts that i have used many times, which would have been two different 1991 black Cherry Pie shirts with a leg of tour gigs listed on the back, and the definitive-for-me first album pretty-common black shirt w/just logo and the group on the front -- see the last three photos here, the second of which shows me (on bonehead guitar, i.e. lead vcls/2nd guitar) outside in back, before a Hemet gig in 2004 haha, holding the "backup stage guitar" (an Epiphone Olympic, Gibson's early-mid 60's bargain line version of their Melody Maker models, which themselves were the "runts of the litter" and still are (if used prices for the 1962 dbl-cutaway sunburst melody maker are the correct barometer.  let's just say a 1962 MM in ex cond would cost you barely 1/20th of what a 1961 Les Paul SG would (see the very last picture here, from 1971 little rock arkansas, of my brother/sibling and future band-founder's first guitar, which was just that, a 1961 LP SG) (Q: "so what was the name of your band?  was it one of those 1977-1979 idiot LA punk rock bands that refused to die and take that idiot music with it?"  A: yes, yes, and yes.  our particular band of numbskulls (speaking as the co-founder and head idiot) was "the angry samoans," and yes we OWNED EVERYTHING and (after the usual string of endless ripoffs during the 80's decade) eventually GOT PAID.  like six figures x 2 or 3, before splitting all that moohah five ways (and that's just the royalties and licensing, not gig money).  not bad for a 'weekend/hobby band'!  the first six guys to have come through the band (counting the Yr 2 replacement on 1st guitar, the late Philip "PJ" Galligan from ventura, who at his best was a SELF-TRAINED ASSASSIN on punk-rock downstroke-or-die rhythm guitar.  he actually came out of the very earliest lineups, starting in highschool no less, of early-mid 70's ventura band Cirith Ungol which wound up with a long prog-metal discography, if i understand their genre correctly) -- anyway, those first six guys (counting the first two exCELLent/kickass 1st guitarists, without which no rock band / heavy band / heavy metal band / speedmetal band / mid-80's crossover band / not to mention "idiot punk rock band" or our own tag apparently, "an early west coast hardcore punk rock band circa ground zero 1979-1980," is worth a good goddamn) -- anyway, those 6 personages included FOUR college degrees (Univ of Texas at Austin twice, Cal State Northridge, and PJ himself at Swarthmore the former all-female college), one of which went on to get a masters and then an actual "Phds in applied math," en route to a college professor type career for almost thirty years since then.  soo somewhere in there might be a clue as to how our "idiot punk rock" band cleared (not gigs, but royalties, publishing, and licensing) over a quarter-mil in cold hard cash.  for sitting at home!  (eventually over some 38 years worth, 600 to 700 gigs had been played by the group up to the point in time where i personally cashed in my "Spinal Tap Bingo Card" and just stayed home.  (Q:  "did you officially quit the band?"  A: "no, i just quit going to the gigs."  which is a foolproof and not entirely unwelcome solution when you've been living (since 1980! truth, i am not lying here) FOUR HUNDRED MILES away from the rest of the band (which spanned about the last 90% of those six to seven hundred gigs).  (there is a half-clever Jeff Dahl reference here viz a viz "so did you quit the band," Jeff being the brave soul who during about seven miserable months of 1981 filled the "lead singer/yell-er" spot during the band's peak era of being "blacklisted and worse" around all of hollywood (in return for having made the right enemies without trying hard, during 1979-80).  eventually years later, an interviewer wanted to know just how/why jeff left the group, i.e. was he fired or did he quit, or just what was the deals (stories had varied in multiple directions, depending which angry samoans member had been asked) -- and jeff said in reply:  A:  "no, i just quit going to any band practices."  ka-ching!  

playtesting/cleaning update, thurs 6/23

so when i called Needle to the Groove fremont, the owner who answered the call asked me:  "did you try cleaning that spot with a Q-tip and 91% isopropyl alcohol?"  and i was like, "ohhhh."  so i got a $2 bottle of it at the grocery store yesterday night, swabbed/cleaned the track in question with it, and let the record dry for a couple of hours.

and the "SKIP" is gone.  it might have been a tiny speck of dust/dirt that floated into the record at any point in time, and is now gone.
