Original 10" 78 RPM shellac record by Washboard Sam & His Washboard Band on Bluebird B-8424.
Title: Going Back to Arkansas / I Won’t Be Sober Long
Recording Date: March 22, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois.
Washboard Sam vocals & washboard; Big Bill Broonzy guitar; Buster Bennett soprano saxophone; Horace Malcolm piano.
A strong 1940 Bluebird Chicago blues record by Washboard Sam, with Big Bill Broonzy on guitar and “Going Back to Arkansas” carrying direct autobiographical weight: Washboard Sam is Robert Brown, the composer credited on the disc. He was raised in Arkansas, and the song looks back toward that origin.
Grade: E- / V+
Side A is generally clean from cracks and scratches, but shows some signs of wear like dust collection on the playing surface and light scuffs near the label. There is a small chip about 0.5cm on the rim, but it does not get near the grooves and does not affect playback. Side B is exceptionally clean with no scuffs, scratches, cracks, or chips. Little to no signs of wear.
I grade each record after a test-play and visual inspection.

I ensure all records are sleeved, sandwiched between rigid cardboard pads, cushioned securely, and shipped in an oversized box with no loose movement. This record comes with a tan paper sleeve (not pictured).
